Since its first release in 2000, the UIQ platform has evolved, matured and grown over the years, adding functionalities and features, integrating new technologies, improving the user experience and increasing its compliance with the industry’s standards and requirements. UIQ 3

The latest main version of UIQ, UIQ 3, was unveiled in 2005, and has been upgraded since then with three updates, the latest one being UIQ 3.3. UIQ 3 is based on Symbian OS v9.
UIQ 3 introduced the first real flexible development platform for mobile phones, supporting different phone styles with one single code base and easy configuration for phone manufacturers and operators.
UIQ 3 focuses on flexibility, user experience, usability, rich multimedia, advanced messaging technologies, web technologies and enhanced operator compliance and Java MSA support.
As of today, 9 phones running UIQ 3 have been released by Sony Ericsson and Motorola.

UIQ 2

UIQ 2 was the version used in the first UIQ-based phone available on the market, emphasizing Java, connectivity and messaging technologies. UIQ 2 is based on Symbian OS v7.
The very first phone built on UIQ, the Sony Ericsson P800, was an immediate success and still is an iconic figure of the early smartphones. A total of 11 phones from Sony Ericsson, Motorola, BendQ and Arima were released with UIQ 2 between 2002 and 2004.

UIQ 1

The very first version of UIQ was intended to set the foundation for the future releases and was engineered with all the core components of the platform, including telephony and connectivity.
