UIQ Platform Architecture
Due to the unusual nature and design of the Symbian OS regarding the user interface, the UIQ architecture is different from the development platforms on other operating systems. However, it’s the added thin layer of complexity that allows UIQ to offer a flexibility and extensibility found on no other platform.

Components
The UIQ Application Development Platform contains a set of components with corresponding APIs that are used to create compelling applications for different types of UIQ phones: the application framework, the system services, the rich GUI toolkit and J2ME (Java).

Flexibility
